02 Privacy Policy

This policy explains how personal data is handled when you use this website, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Danish data-protection law.

Who is responsible (data controller)

What data is processed

This is a static informational website. It has no user accounts and does not store your personal data on its own servers. Specifically:

• Your location (optional): if you click "Detect My Location", your browser may share your approximate coordinates with the page only to rank surf regions by distance. This happens entirely in your browser; the location is not sent to us, saved, or shared.
• Live surf & weather data: the page requests current conditions from Open-Meteo. As with any external request, their servers receive your device's IP address to return the data. See Open-Meteo's own privacy information.
• Web fonts: fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address in order to serve them.
• Images: some photos are served from Unsplash's image CDN, which receives your IP address in order to deliver them.
• Consent preference: your cookie choice is stored locally in your browser (see Cookie Policy). This is essential and is not used to track you.
• Hosting logs: the hosting provider may record standard server access logs (including IP addresses) for security and reliability.
• Analytics & advertising: none are currently used. If added later, they will be described here and loaded only with your consent.

Why (legal basis)

• Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — for anything non-essential, such as analytics or advertising, loaded only after you agree.
• Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — for the basic, secure operation of the website.

International transfers

Some third parties (for example Google Fonts) may process data outside the EU/EEA. Where that happens, transfers rely on the relevant safeguards (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses).

Retention

No personal data is stored by this website beyond your in-browser consent choice. Hosting logs are kept only as long as the provider needs them for security.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability. To exercise any of these, email wave@surf-finder.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet.

03 Cookie Policy

"Cookies" and similar local storage are small pieces of data saved in your browser. Under Danish rules (the cookie order, cookiebekendtgørelsen) we may only place non-essential cookies after you consent.

What this site uses today

Right now the site uses only one essential item: a local-storage entry that remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask on every visit. There are currently no tracking or advertising cookies.

Managing your choice

When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. Nothing non-essential loads unless you accept. You can change your decision at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
